How do you resolve that?
Whenever there is a contradiction in the coachee's statement, you point out the contradiction and invite the coachee to analyze what they had just said and rationalize their own statements. In this way you challenge the coachee to look at the contradictions in their lives and find a resolution to it.
|Coachee:||I just love to do charity work. It gives me great pleasure and fulfillment.|
|Coach:||So tell me about you recent charity work that you have done.|
|Coachee:||I have not done much on this lately because I've been so busy with my work.|
|Coach:||I hear that you love to do charity work on one hand and that you are unable to find time to do what you love. How do you resolve that?|
|Coachee:||I want to be seen as an understanding boss. I know when my staff is overloaded with work and I feel difficult asking them to do more. So I end up doing that work myself.|
|Coach:||That's interesting. How has that style been effective for you as a manager?|
|Coachee:||As a matter of fact not effective at all. I know that I must delegate my work to my subordinates to ease my own workload.|
|Coach:||So on one hand you want to be seen as an understanding boss and on the other hand you feel you need to delegate your work out more. So how do you resolve that?|
